About Werner Vogels
I am the Chief Technology Officer at Amazon.com where I am responsible for driving the company’s customer-centric technology vision. Prior to joining Amazon, I worked as a research scientist at Cornell University where I was a principal investigator in several research projects that target the scalability and robustness of mission-critical enterprise computing systems.
I have held various academic positions at a several universities, including Cornell University, the University of California, Santa Barbara and the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. I obtained a Ph.D in Computer Science from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam in 1994.
My interests are in distributed systems, operating systems, distributed caching, web services, programming systems, programming models, and computer systems performance.
